PETAL Award

Hardworking, caring, and meticulous— these are just a few words to describe GCGH's latest PETAL Award Winner, Krislyn Crowley, RRT.

Krislyn is a Respiratory Therapist. She was nominated by three of her coworkers, including her boss who says Krislyn is an exceptional team member who always goes above and beyond. Krislyn was nominated because she is a dedicated advocate for her patients and gives more than 100% in every shift she works. Coworkers describe Krislyn as "the whole package", kind and considerate while being knowledgeable and assertive.

Thank you, Krislyn, for all you do for the GCGH Team and our patients! We value YOU today and every day!

Empathetic, helpful, reactive— those are three words used to describe GCGH's latest PETAL Award Winner, Speech Therapist Alicia Cooksey, M.S. CCD-SLP!

Alicia was nominated by the parent of a patient who is a child. This parent says Alicia has helped tremendously with improving her son's speech delay. But she says she was very impressed with how Alicia went above and beyond to provide assistance to her son during an x-ray. The parent said Alicia and GCGH Therapy Dog, Sunny, were passing by the ER when they saw the boy visibly upset. Alicia and Sunny comforted and calmed him before, during, and after his x-ray. The parent says she is forever grateful to Alicia for helping her son with speech but says she was truly moved by how Alicia spoke to her son and gave him a sense of security throughout the x-ray process. She also said Alicia is a wonderful asset to the therapy department and hospital as a whole.

Congratulations, Alicia! We value you and the important work you do at GCGH every day!

Outstanding Leader of the Year Award 2024

Congratulations, Jessi King!

Greene County General Hospital (GCGH) is excited to announce Director of Surgical Services Jessi King, MSN, RN as its 2024 Outstanding Leader of the Year!
Each year, hospital administration team members accept nominations for this award. King was chosen for always going above and beyond for her team. Employees say King doesn’t treat people as above her or below her, but with her. They say there is no job King will delegate that she won’t do herself. Staff describe King as selfless and say she is always looking for ways to improve processes for the operating room, for the hospital, and most importantly, for our patients and the community. They say King genuinely cares for people, and it shows every day.
King received her Associate of Science in Nursing from Vincennes University in 2012. She then received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Indiana University in 2013 and went on to earn a Master of Science in Nursing Administration from Ball State University in 2020. In addition to GCGH, King’s nursing career has taken her to Sullivan County Community Hospital, The Pain Clinic, and Terre Haute Surgical Center. She previously worked at GCGH’s Covid Vaccine Clinic before being named GCGH Director of Surgical Services in 2021. King says she had planned on becoming a Nurse Practitioner until the leadership opening at GCGH presented itself. King says she is so glad she took the opportunity. “I love working at Greene County General Hospital. There is something special about working in your hometown. Our surgery team is awesome! They make coming to work enjoyable and take such great care of our patients. I have learned so much from coworkers and some of the best mentors while I have been at GCGH.”, says King.
King lives in Linton and is married with two daughters. She says when she’s not at one of her daughters’ sporting events, she and her family enjoy going to IU Basketball games and spending time at the lake. King also likes to read and garden.

Safety Star of the Year Award 2024

As the end of 2024 draws near, we’re excited to present ourGCGH Safety Star of the Year Award to Shaun Ferree!
Shaun works in our Maintenance Department. On December 12th, Shaun was in the basement and noticed some of the lights were dimming and he heard a motor on the mezzanine making a strange noise. On the way to investigate the sound, Shaun saw a problem with one of the water pumps. Shaun immediately went into action and prevented a potentially devastating situation. We present this award to Shaun for his continued dedication to keeping our staff, patients, and visitors safe!
Thank you, Shaun, for ALL you do at GCGH! We value YOU!
