CARING Council

Here at Greene County General Hospital (GCGH) we believe in patient and family centered care.  Patient-centered care means that the patient and their family help make important decisions about the patient’s treatment. This kind of care doesn’t just look at the patient’s illness or medical history—it also considers their feelings, relationships, finances, and personal beliefs. It’s a way of making sure the patient is treated as a whole person, not just a set of symptoms.

This is why we have created the CARING Council (Community Advocates Representing Individuals’ Needs in Greene County).  This council is a patient and family advisory group made up of former patients, patient’s family, and community members who collaborate with the leadership team of GCGH to advance comprehensive and compassionate patient and family centered health care for all the people served by our hospital and clinics.

I live in Linton, Indiana with my husband and our four children. We are a homeschool family who loves to travel and learn together. I am a photographer, a former foster parent, and have served as a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) for children in Greene County for the past 19 years. Our family has extensive firsthand experience with the healthcare system—our oldest son lives with Type 1 diabetes, and I underwent breast cancer treatment in 2022–2023—so compassionate patient care and a positive hospital experience are important to us.

I’m a proud mom of three beautiful kids, and a dog lover with two furry companions. I grew up as an Army brat, traveling the world and experiencing new places from a young age. I work at Wagler Education & Training Center, helping people take the steps toward earning their GEDs. I’m also an adult education advocate with the Indiana Association for Adult and Continuing Education (IAACE) and a member of the Caring Council at Greene County General Hospital, where I hope to make a difference in my community. In my free time, I enjoy gardening and spending quality time with my family and friends.

I graduated from Linton High School. Received my Bachelor and master’s degree in Education from Indiana State University and retired after 33 years of teaching. My husband and I have been married for 50 years and have two children and one grandson. I wanted to become a part of CARING Council to stay involved in my community and stay relevant with our hospital.
